I had the pleasure of photographing Kristin Locklear and Christopher Oxendine's wedding this weekend. The ceremony was held at Mt. Hebron Church in Maxton. The reception was at Gospel Tabernacle Church in Rowland.

The last family photography post brought to mind an important point. Its always a good idea to coordinate clothing for group photos. Similar clothing makes the image more appealing to the eye. If the colors clash the focus is taken off the subject or subjects of the photograph.

In the case of the Lowry family portraits they chose to all wear the same colors. A group could also wear similar shades of clothing. Its also a good idea to decide in advance on formal or informal clothing. If one person is in a suit and another in jeans the focus will become the contrast between the two.

If you are having a children's portraits session done its also a good idea to bring a few of their own toys. Bringing things that belong to the child make the portraits even more personalized. It also makes the child feel more comfortable in the strange environment of the studio. I mean, here is this stranger with a lot of big lights pointed at you. Its a perfect time for Mr. Teddy to save the day. I've also found its a good idea to let older kids have their photos done first. Once the youngest see everything is ok its usually easier to get them to relax.

Family Portraits at Britt Park

I recently did a session of a large family from Pembroke, NC. We did the outdoor session at Britt Park in Lumberton. It was a really large group, but everything went really well.

Lu Mil Vineyard in Bladen County would also be a great place to do this type of family session.
The in door part of the photo session was done at the Elegant Portraits Studio in downtown Lumberton. Altough, some of the families wanted portraits by the lake.

See, I told you it was a large family!

Photos for Maren's Modeling Portfolio

I recently had a great photo session with Maren. We were going for a 60'ish retro look and also wanted to do some film noir black and white photos. I think we managed to pull it off.

Maren is from Fayetteville. I've been working with a lot of models from Fayetteville and Cumberland county. Developing model portfolios is a chance to be creative.

I decided to play around with the composition in this one

McCall & Ross Wedding Photography

I was going through some of the weddings I've assisted on yesterday. I've shied away from posting much on weddings that weren't my clients. But I think these are good pics and they do represent my abilities. So, why not post them.

This was a great wedding and at some point I acquired the nick name "twinkle toes." Late in the afternoon the light streaming into the church was beautiful so the candid shots after the ceremony were beautiful. The wedding was in Dillon, South Carolina which is a short drive from Lumberton

These wedding photographs were taken while assisting Steve Humbert Photography.
Steve is a good friend and I would recommend him to anyone.

Pageant Head Shots

These photos are from a session last weekend with Amber Pittman. She is new to the pageant scene and needed head shots. We also took the opportunity to do a creative shot or two. The B&W is my favorite from the session. Hopefully we will see her back for a high school senior session soon.

This photo was taken several years ago at a Renaissance fair at the state fairgrounds up in Raleigh. The photograph was taken in lowlight and didn't come out very well. With a little work and a B&W conversion I ended up with something really nice.

Well, I changed my website and hosting provider. Unfortunately, my blog was connected to it and I have to start fresh!
